Tags: Beverages, Cocktail, Drink, Liquor, Tequila and Mezcal, Times Square Last week, thousands of bartenders, mixologists, brand owners, spirits connoisseurs and cocktail enthusiasts took their annual pilgrimage to New Orleans for the cocktail event of the summer, Tales of the Cocktail. Daytime seminars revealed everything from how to perfect your consulting skills to the best ways to publish a book to creating 100 Pisco cocktails in 8 minutes and everything in between. Highlights of the week included evening parties by Beefeater, Leblon, William Grant & Sons, Pernod Ricard and the funeral of the Sex on the Beach cocktail in the rain followed by the Plymouth Bartender Breakfast. With so many delicious restaurants and organized evening meals to choose from, dinner was definitely the meal of the day this year! Cocktailians went as close as Arnaud’s for their delectable baked potato chips to as far as Jacques-Imo’s nearly a half hour away for the finest seafood and fried chicken around. With so many spirits flowing, the cocktail choices were never-ending and around every corner! Just like the perfect cocktail, nobody wanted to see Tales end! Related posts:
Tags: Bartender, Cocktail, New Orleans Last Tuesday, the first of a series of innovative pairing dinners was held at Jardinière restaurant in San Francisco. Co-hosts Traci Des Jardins, Michael Mondavi, and Gary Shansby got together a group of San Francisco press, chefs and mixologists to experience a special menu that paired with Mondavi’s wines and Shansby’s Tequila Partida. Usually pairing dinners are focused exclusively on wine and focus on either press or trade, but Gary and Michael wanted to bridge this gap with the more ambitious task of pairing each dish with wine and tequila. The special menu prepared by Des Jardins included Hudson Ranch Pork Three Ways and Seared Scallops with Chipollini Onions and Fava Beans, Tomato Nage and Cilantro Coulis. A number of well-known San Franciscans were present, including Donna Scala of Bistro Don Giovanni and Nick Peyton of Cyrus.
The dinners will be reprised in the coming months across the US. Next up, Chicago, which will be co-hosted at Blackbird by chefs Paul Kahan and Mike Sheerin, followed by Miami co-hosted by chef Paul Ruiz at La Palmde d’Or at the Biltmore. Future dinners will take place in Dallas, Los Angeles, and finally New York in January 2010.
We’re looking forward to continuing to explore the similarities between fine tequila and wine – their similiarities are numerous and quite suprising. And bringing together a diverse group of people involved in creating, writing about, and enjoying all facets of gastronomy is always a fun (and interesting) time.

With restaurant openings, conventions, seminars, food pairing events, cocktail parties, competitions and more, the warmer months host the revival of many spirits and traditional summer cocktails. In the last month in New York, we have participated in the Manhattan Cocktail Classic, the Gourmet Latino Festival and the buzz continues to grow around the upcoming Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans. As the weather heats up, summer editions are taking center stage like Beefeater’s Summer Edition Gin and Classic & Vintage’s June. Keeping in the spirit of the World Cup and Mexico’s great win yesterday, we at Colangelo and Partners ask everyone to raise their glass to the team from Mexico and indulge this weekend with a Partida Margarita! Kicking off with a grand Gala at the New York Public Library on Friday evening, the MCC was celebrated in New York from May 14th – 18th. The four-day cocktail extravaganza included stories behind the bar from renowned mixologists, cocktail competitions where top bartenders battled for grand prizes, unforgettable parties and insightful seminars. Tequila Partida hosted a seminar at Yerba Buena on Perry Street called “The History & Evolution of Tequila, North America’s First Distilled Spirit.” Together with Chef Julian Medina and the Gourmet Latino Festival, guests were invited to peer into the world of tequila, terroir, and the essence of Mexico. Excellent fare was presented by Chef Medina, and delicious cocktails were created by Jacques Bezuidenhout and Raphael Reyes. Founder, Chairman and CEO of Tequila Partida Gary Shansby led an informative tequila tasting, while President of Tequila Partida de Mexico Vinicio Estrada talked about history and culture, paired with Chef Medina’s succulent dishes of Tamal con Huitlacoche, Pollo con Mole, Gordita de Puerco and Churros dusted with cinnamon, served with chocolate and dulce de leche sauces. There were fun surprises, many laughs and innovative uses of the world’s top rated tequila. New York cocktail enthusiasts will look forward to the Manhattan Cocktail Classic in 2011, as plans begin to unfold for the exciting times to come at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans. ![]() The team at Tequila Partida and Gourmet Latino Festival outside of Yerba Buena Perry.
